Colts A Cricket v Cottesmore

26th June 2016

So to the final game of the season and a match against our close neighbours Cottesmore.
Jacob won the toss and put Cotty into bat on a very damp pitch. We looked to make early break throughs but the ball seemed to always drop into the gaps and Cotty progressed onto 34/0 the fifth over before Liban and Ben managed to force a run out. Cotty continued to move smoothly along to 70 in the 10th over. Liban finally got a breakthrough bowling their opener. However Cotty continued to make use of the short boundaries to progress to 140 before Ben C claimed another wicket. Cotty finished on 141/3 for their 20 overs.

So in order to win the final game of the season we needed to chase down 142 which would be our biggest run chase of the season. We opened up with Jamie and Karan after a few steady overs and a couple of 4’s we lost a couple of quick wickets to leave us on 18/2 in the 6th over. Louis and Jacob started to build a nice little partnership finding the boundary on a number of occasions and bringing us back into the game. Unfortunately Jacob was well caught at cover to leave us on 49/3 in the 9th over. In strode Luca and he promptly dispatched is first ball for 4. Louis and Luca continued to to keep things progressing scoring at 7 an over before Luca fell for 22. We continued to battle and tried to remain positive with Louis scoring a very creditable 29 but we unfortunately finished our 20 overs 40 runs short. So the final game ended in defeat but we finished the game as we have done all season with our heads held high and gracious in defeat and taking the time to go and shake hands with the oppositions parents. Cricket is a team game, win, lose or draw it should always be played in the correct manner. I hope that the boys have learnt the etiquette of the game this summer as well as improving their ability.

Just to finish I was stopped us we were about to leave by a relative of the Cottesmore’s Headmaster. She stated that our boys were a credit to the school saying how polite and gracious they were. It is good to hear that you follow the Copthorne Core values. IP
