Colts A Cricket v Windlesham – Summer 2017

14th May 2017

The Sun has got his hat on hip hip hooray. Finally after two weeks of freezing conditions the boys were able to play in some sunshine. Windlesham have always been a tough fixture and they brought down a strong side today. We put them into bat and took an early wicket through Luke. Louis controlled his troops well as he spread his field to give the single so we kept the weaker batsman on strike. We were in control in the field until Windlesham retired their Number 3 with a score of 1 not out from 25 balls. Clearly a tactical decision as their next batsman then hit it to all parts of the ground to accelerate the score. Despite this obvious game management our boys stuck at the task and took further wickets through Sam’s x 3, Liban and a run out. We used 8 different bowlers and supported each other plus Sam R produced a fantastic display behind the stumps to only concede 1 bye plus also taking a great catch. Windlesham finished on 113/6 from 20 overs.

The boys felt confident they could knock these runs off as the batsman have been in good form this season but unfortunately today was not our day as we fell to 14/3 after some impressive bowling. Luca and Luke started to build a recovery as Windlesham
continued with their strike bowlers. Unfortunately Luke got run out after a useful knock but Luca continued until he was out for 32. We eventually came up 22 runs short. We were beaten by a better team on the day but as I said to everyone, parents included at the end via a quick chat, our boys will have learnt more from today’s game then our opponents as they are making their own decisions and setting their own fields as opposed to a teacher making the bowling changes and telling them all where to field, I felt sorry for their captain.

Thanks to the parents who came to watch, the boys do value it.
