Colts A I/Hockey v Great Walstead – Drew 2-2

With only three games sessions, the girls played exceedingly well for their first indoor hockey game.

Although the halves were only 10 minutes, the girls worked tirelessly from end to end.

Copthorne were the first to attack with Ruby H combining well with Sophia in defense and Jemima upfront. The girls passed the ball quickly and accurately off the boards and entered the oppositions circle on numerous occasions, earning a couple of short corners. Jemima did well to convert one of these to put the home side in the lead. The girls enjoyed most of the possession and territory in the first half, looking to attack on every occasion but were caught off guard, allowing a Great Walstead player to have the faintest of touches in the circle before going into our goal to level the scores just before half-time.

Scoring the latest goal, the visiting team came out into the second half the more aggressive and determined side and soon found themselves ahead for the first time.

Sophia, Abigail and both Emily’s defended nonstop, clearing most of the danger. Isabella, in goal, improved as the game went on, moving and watching the ball before coming off her goal line to kick the ball away. Once again Copthorne slowly started to build up their attacks and were beginning to believe a draw was possible. With about 2 minutes left, the girls showed how easy indoor can be if you use the boards and pass early, scoring the equalizer with only 3 passes. From a 16 yard, Sophia played the ball to Ruby who turned superbly with the ball on her stick and quickly laid it off to Jemima at the top of the circle who showed great composure to put her second goal past the keepers left foot.

Well done to Jemima for being voted player of the match for her movement with the ball and scoring both of Copthorne’s goals.

It was a very evenly matched game with both teams exhausted at the end. Thank you to all the girls for a wonderful, entertaining game of hockey. IP

Team: Isabella W, Sophia, Emily W, Ruby H, Emily G, Jemima and Abigail.
