Colts A Rugby v Handcross Park – Won 43-7

Although the result looks nice our boys know that they did not play to their best and made hard work of a match which they should have won comfortably.Doing the basics well is always going to win rugby matches but we just could not click into our usual rhythm of hitting the ball up, rucking over and recycling good, quick ball.  Sam L, Harry and Joe scrummaged well to give the backs a solid platform to work from. Andrew and Oscar linked well to start and quite often finish attacking moves.  Nils and Ryan continued their tireless work in midfield, making tackle after tackle and supporting at rucks and mauls, and Sam H and James were always available in attack and made huge efforts in defence.

Harry and Sam H grabbed 2 early tries to get the ball rolling before Handcross hit back with their solitary try. Andrew and Oscar(2) kept the scoreboard ticking over helping themselves to long range individual efforts. Nils scored the try of the match with what seemed to be a simple crash ball through two defenders, but when simple was all that was needed, he executed it to perfection. Solid straight line running! Andrew capped off another fine performance with his second try of the match in the closing seconds to seal another victory.  With only one more match remaining it’s important to dig in deep in games lessons so we can finish on a high and make it a season to remember.  Well done to everyone.    Team: Joe, Harry, Sam L, Andrew, Oscar, Nils, Ryan, James, Sam H.    MA
