After the half-term break the cricket season continued with some fine sunny weather as the Colts B played away to close rivals Cottesmore. Copthorne lost the toss and were sent in, immediately we were on the back foot losing both opening batsman within the first 2 overs. From that point Peter Kinnear and Rohan Patel set about putting the innings back on track. They did so in fine style laying the foundation for the remainder of the innings with a partnership of 30 odd runs. However, Peter was bowled and we were back to square one being 3 for 42, still with work to do. This brought Zach Pennisi to the crease and from that point on him and Rohan amassed a wonderful partnership till the end of the innings frustrating the Cottesmore bowlers.
We had set a competitive 3/120 off our allotted 20 overs. In the field the game continued to swing momentum between the two sides as the Cottesmore openers got off to a good start losing their first wicket once 56 runs were on the board. The game was in the balance for most of the innings however, Cottesmore’s batsman continued to score quickly. With only 20 runs needed Copthorne got the break through and had Cottesmore worried with another 2 quick wickets from Daniel Persad, who was the pick of the bowlers (2/11 off 4 overs). It proved to be too little too late as Cottesmore won with 2 overs to spare although it seemed there wasn’t much batting to come. Overall I am very pleased with the boys and it is obvious that their cricket skills and ability is improving with every match they play as a team.
It was great to see a lot of parents at the match, supporting the boys, which the boys enjoyed and appreciated. JB
