Colts B Cricket v Hazelwood

The first game of the new cricket season got under way last Wednesday with the Colts B at home to Hazelwood. With only a couple of days to find their feet and brush away the cobwebs the boys played better than expected. The team on the day played with great enthusiasm and energy. We lost the toss and bowled first and instantly got a breakthrough with the new ball. However that’s as good as it got in the field with Hazelwood taking control and posting an imposing T20 score of 2/109 with one of their batsman retiring on 52 not out. Although typically a hard score to chase down we knew with a little help in the form of some bad bowling and good running between wickets we could start the season with a victory. The opening few batsman put pressure on the opposing fielders and bowlers and as a result we were placed well at the 10 over mark being 3/55. However, the match didn’t go our way after that, losing wickets at regular intervals causing our scoring rate to slow and at the close of innings being 9/81 after our 20 overs. Although the boys lost this week, there were many positives that came out of the match and also several things the boys felt they could improve on for the future. Looking forward to getting a win next week, but overall a good performance.  JB
