Colts B I/Hockey v Great Walstead – Lost 0-5

With only three games sessions, the girls played exceedingly well for their first indoor hockey game.

Although the halves were only 10 minutes, the girls worked tirelessly from end to end.

Great Walstead looked the sharper of the two teams and came at speed, attacking whenever they had the ball. Mallory, Isabel and Beth had to soak up a lot of pressure, making vital tackles on numerous occasions. The girls were not always on the defensive and did string together some attacks of their own. Lila and Emma fought hard to take the ball closer towards the goal but were quickly smothered by solid defending and goalkeeping from the visiting side.

Both teams started the second half well, looking to pass the ball and to use the boards. Beth was back on the field after taking a knock to the hand early on in the first half. She made up for her time off by running constantly in the midfield, looking for any space to attack. As the game went on, Copthorne were beginning to tire due to the quick passes and constant change of direction from the opposition. The girls did not give up and played to the best of their abilities all the way to the end.

Well done to all the girls, especially to Emma who was voted player of the match for her work rate all up and down the sports hall. HP
