Colts B v Ardingly

12th October 2017

This was probably the most exciting game of the season so far as the high scoring Colts B’s where made to work extremely hard for their eventual victory on Wednesday afternoon. The game didn’t start well as Ardingly played the ball around with confidence and the Copthorne players started very slowly. The marking seemed to disappear as Kochi was left stranded with Ardingly players bearing down on him and they played it past him to take the lead. This didn’t wake up the Copthorne boys as they went further behind when the same defensive issues let in Ardingly again to double their lead. Finally the Copthorne boys got themselves into gear and passed the ball around. They found out that they were generally better players than their opposition and played the ball around them rather than trying to dribble through them. The pressure started to rise and just before the half time lead a great piece of play saw Henri break down the right supported by Henry and the ball was played across for Shams who smashed the ball into the top of the goal to leave the score at 2-1 at half time.

The second half was end to end for the entire 12 minutes with multiple opportunities for both sides. The Copthorne defence improved with Ronnie, Archie and Marcos playing deeper and making some crucial challenges to keep the score down to just 1 goal. Lucas, playing his first match in the B’s, had a solid game and made some excellent forward runs and looked a threat. Henri and Shams have struck up a great partnership up front and they combined well together to level the scores at 2-2 with still 5 minutes left of the game. At this point the game opened right up with both teams looking as if they could score. Chances came and went, Copthorne having the best opportunity as the goalkeeper made a save and then the defender somehow making a save on the line to keep the score at 2-2. With the seconds ticking away another break by Copthorne saw the defender make an excellent last ditch tackle. The ball broke to Henri who made no mistake as he scored the winning goal. There was still time for Ardingly to nearly sneak a leveller but Kochi came to the rescue with a brave save.

An excellent comeback although in future games the team might not be so lucky if they start so slowly again. Well done to all the boys. Your efforts paid off in the end.
