A gritty performance by the Colts B side didn’t bring the rewards as they went down 1-0 to a strong Cumnor House side in a closely fought game on Wednesday afternoon. Cumnor House had the best of the early exchanges, playing the ball around nicely. Some good skill saw them take the lead as the defence went missing leaving with Kochi with little option in goal than to come out and the ball was passed around him and into the goal. This woke the Copthorne players up a bit as Shams, Henry and Henri got more of the ball and had space to work in. Good approach play didn’t quite manage a decent opportunity on goal as the remainder first half was battled out with the score still at 1-0.

The second half was again a close affair. Ronnie, Marcos and Archie made some excellent tackles as Cumnor found it more and more difficult to get near the Copthorne goal. When they finally did Kochi made a fantastic save, palming the ball onto the crossbar and out for a corner to keep the score at 1-0. Towards the end of the game Shams and Henri both worked their socks off to win the ball back higher up the pitch as Cumnor started to buckle under the pressure. Lucas had a great chance to score but his foots failed him at the wrong moment as his boot went in but the ball did not follow. Shams and Henri both got themselves into excellent positions but the final finish was not quite there on a disappointing afternoon in front of goal. The final whistle went with a 1-0 loss but I can’t fault all the players for the efforts during the game and a draw probably would have been a fair result.
