Colts B v St Christopher’s

10th November 2017

The Colts B put in perhaps their best performance of the season so far as they played a decent St Christopher’s side on Wednesday afternoon. All aspects of their game were good and they fully deserved their emphatic victory and possibly should have won by even more. The game started with a great opportunity but no Copthorne player could put the ball in the back of the net during a goal mouth scramble. This needn’t have mattered though as a minute later Copthorne went one up as an excellent corner from Henri was fumbled by the keeper and Archie was there to sweep the ball into the unguarded net. Unfortunately St Christopher’s went straight up the other end and won a penalty which was easily converted to level the scores. For the rest of the half it was all Copthorne. Ronnie and Marcos tackled really well in defence and this meant swift counter attacks which were ruthlessly put away by Shams. The boys pressed their opposition well and lead to mistakes which again Shams benefitted from and he went from 0 goals to his hat trick in a matter on 5 minutes. Cruising at 4-1 St Christopher’s did manage to pull a goal back but a 4-2 half time score line was good. The second half was much as the first with Copthorne playing all the football. Archie had a great game all over the pitch tackling and passing really well. Henry was a constant threat to the opposition with his skill and pace and would eventually get a goal as he made a difficult finish look easy as he picked up another defensive lapse from St Christopher’s. Lucas was effective in midfield and worked hard all game to track his opposite player. There was still time for Kochi to make some good saves although one gave him no chance at the end of the game. A 5-3 victory was well deserved and shows just how far the B team have come this season. Well played to all the boys.
