The extras column would once again come back to haunt the Colts B this week in a close defeat against Brambletye. After winning the toss, Ayush put the opposition into bat. The bowling started off well with Ayush taking 2 wickets 2 balls. It would have been 3 in 3 balls if it had not been for a no ball. After the bright start however the bowling became a little wayward. Too many bowlers would follow up a good ball with 2 bad ones and the extras column grew. In the end Brambletye scored 90-4. 72 of these however were given to them in the extras column meaning that they only scored 18 runs off the bat.
The batting reply began with the fall of early wickets with too many batsmen trying to smash straight balls over the boundary instead of defend them. Kinshuk (9), Amardip (6) and Freddie (8) put up some resistance and made some runs. Others got going but couldn’t find the gaps and were eventually bowled. Brambletye’s extras column also began to rise but in the end the game slipped away with the boys falling 10 runs short.
It was another harsh lesson in bowling straight and with accuracy. If we can learn to be more consistent then the side will move onto better things and convincing victories. CC
