It was a disappointing end to the season for the Colts B side as they lost to Pennthorpe on Wednesday afternoon. After losing the toss Copthorne were put into bat.
A positive start form the openers gave a platform to build from but from there on in all but one of the batsmen failed to deliver any meaningful scores. Pennthorpe did take their catches (all 7 of them) but the shots which were played to give these opportunities were poor. The boys need to learn that not every ball can be hit to the boundary and straight bowling needs to be given some respect. Joseph A was the stand out performer as he played some nice shots for his 18. Eventually Copthorne were all out for just 72 with 2 overs still to bowl.
Pennthorpe’s reply was swift with their openers hitting quick runs. The bowling was good but a few too many byes cost us and with such a low total to defend it proved to be our downfall. Joseph starred with the ball this time with 3 wickets out of the 5 in total. Unfortunately, even with some good fielding, the boys were unable to prevent Pennthorpe reaching 73 to win with still 4 overs to spare.
Overall it has been a positive season for the Colts B. Well done to all the boys who took part. I thought you all improved over the course of the season and deserved all the victories you gained. I hope that all the boys continue to develop their cricket skills as they move on into next year. CC
