I am afraid it is difficult to report on the first Colts C cricket fixture of the season as the rain was so persistent that my scoresheet literally disintegrated before the end of the match. I can, however, report that Brambletye won the toss and elected to bat. They scored a total of just 54 runs on account of some very economical bowling from Kochi, Rian, Lucas and Harrison in particular. The boys also fielded with energy and enthusiasm despite the conditions which was good to see. I am afraid that there is little paper evidence left of Copthorne’s innings but I can say that the Cowx brothers certainly got the innings off to a sprightly start with Finlay hitting the first boundary of the day. They were followed by Jake and Sonny and the pairs-format ensured that everyone batted for two overs. Despite a number of run-outs due to some dubious decisions by the batsmen involved, we surpassed the Brambletye total and eventually won by 14 runs. Man of the match must go to Kochi for an impressive display with the bat which followed his tidy spell of bowling. Hopefully, the weather will allow me to write a slightly more detailed account of our next match. Well done all!
