The Colts Cs travelled to Windlesham off the back of last week’s victory with a spring in their step and the spring sunshine on their backs. We lost the toss and Windlesham opted to bat first. This week was hard-ball cricket although everyone still took a turn at bowling apart from Thomas who opted to keep wicket. Freddie opened the bowling and proved to be very economical, conceding only one run in his first over. Sonny also had a very tidy couple of overs, along with Harrison and Finley who each took a wicket. In general, there were rather too many wides, which resulted in over 40 runs conceded in extras. Our fielding was rather variable with at least a couple of boundaries being conceded because the fielders were looking in the wrong direction when the ball was hit straight towards them (they shall remain nameless!). Thus, Windlesham set a demanding target of 125 runs.
Finley and Harrison opened our innings and each hit a couple of 4s once they had settled. However, they were both bowled out and Sonny, Thomas and Lucas soon followed without scoring, the latter after a mix-up where both batsmen ended up at the same end. Christopher hit a 4 and some singles before being bowled out and after Hamish had been bowled before he could add to the total, Rian and Luke batted to the end. Rian scored a boundary in the penultimate over, but the main difference between the two innings was the number of wides and no balls which meant that the Copthorne total of 85 was well short of what was needed.
So there are certainly a few things to work on, such as concentration in the field and bowling accuracy, but it was an enjoyable afternoon in the sun for all. Man of the match goes to Sonny for being the only Copthorne player to bowl just one wide.
