The Colts E fixture provided a close encounter of the nervy kind which saw Copthorne prevail after showing Pennthorpe how to be clinical. Aiden, Jake and Andre despite the tough heat conditions worked relentlessly in the midfield to help out the defence when needed and looked to provide support for the attack at every opportunity. Overall, Pennthorpe had the most possession but unfortunately for them, possession does not win matches and Copthorne showed that when given the opportunity to score, it would be taken with no mistake. Pennthorpe continued to press forward, until we sensed our moment. From a big clearance upfield and some quick thinking by Toby C to dispossess the defender, it allowed Copthorne to break forward and demonstrate just how counter attacking football should be played. Jake and Andre worked the ball beautifully into the Pennthorpe area, who then linked up again with Toby C to finish superbly down low into the corner of the net just before the half time whistle.
The half time team talk was simple, stick to your positions, mark your men and clear any danger immediately. This strategy inevitably brought Pennthorpe forward, but the resilient defence stood firm. Toby V, after picking up a knock, moved into defence and stuck to his role admirably, clearing any danger without a second thought. Barlas continued to make save after save, keeping Pennthorpe at bay, including an ambitious lob that was goal bound, until it was dramatically tipped onto the crossbar and bounced down for the defence to clear. Matthew also had a fine match in defence, timing a couple of sliding challenges to perfection in the area to deny the attacker before he could get a shot away. The Copthorne fortress held strong until the final whistle, to make the Colts E side undefeated. Man of the Match: Barlas CD
