Copthorne 3rd Football v Duke of Kent

It was the 3rds first game of football together after only 2 training sessions.

The team was set with a solid defence in the back, 3 good midfielders and 3 goal hungry forwards.

Copthorne came out blazing straight away with 2 shots at goal in the first 5 minutes, narrowly missing the wanted net!

After our early attempts the game became more and more in the middle of the pitch. With the ball being mostly in the Duke’s control the boys played an awesome defence and managed to hold off until half time with the scores still locked at 0-0.

After a quick orange and some water the boys seemed set to keep attacking the goal, although 5 mins into the second half they caught us of guard and managed to beat T. Leen’s fantastic goalie skills. With the score now 1-0 we needed to hit back. Duke of Kent had a lot more shots at the goal but were saved by T. Leen time and time again!

Defence was worked over with the boys digging deep to keep them out of our half.

With about 10 minutes to go Copthorne dug deep and went on the attack. The forwards got the ball down to the other end and began having their own shots, with skill form I. Browne, G. Jeffery, A. Broadley and R. Knight.

2 shots were fired and were saved by a diving keeper.

The whistle sounded and the game was done. A close game of 1-0 to Duke of Kent was the final result.

The boys put up an amazing fight and I thought ALL played extremely well.

The season could be a very successful one for the 3rds. With more practice they will be the team to beat!

Keep it up boys looking forward to the next match!  QM
