Today the U13s took part in a fun versatility tournament held at Copthorne. The matches were 10 minutes one way, with all players following a set rotation after each game.
Copthorne’s first match (round 2) was against Lancing who they beat 5-3, getting off to a flying start with 4 great goals from Katie and one super long range shot from Katherine! Copthorne then took on the overall tournament winners in round 3, Brambletye. Despite their best efforts Brambletye were too strong, having tall players definitely helped them too and they won this match 1-11. In round 4 Copthorne played Great Walstead, having played them last week in the IAPS we knew they were a strong all-round team, but with versatility anything can happen! Great Walstead did unfortunately get the lead earlier on in this match so although Copthorne fought to the end and were definitely coming back towards the end of the match, the early lead won Great Walstead the match, 5-9.
In round 5 Copthorne took on Cottesmore and although slow to begin with, with lots of missed chances, they got stuck in and the goals started to go in eventually and they won the match 3-2, with 3 goals from Regina! In round 6 Copthorne tired a little and this showed in the match play, and although we did have most of the play and possession we just couldn’t seem to convert in this match! Eventually Duke of Kent just managed to squeeze a goal in before the whistle blew, which was unlucky as this match was ours for the taking! In the final round Copthorne took on Cumnor and definitely saved the best till last, finishing on a high and wining the match 9-0. With 8 great goals from Khushi and one from Jemima who got there in the end and showed her perseverance pays off!
When all the results were in and the final positioning was announced, Copthorne finished in third place overall. Well done to all the U13s, who all put 100% in today, proving that many of you can be versatile, although our shooting still needs further practice!
My players of the tournament today were Rosie and Katherine, well done. A big thank you also to Mrs Jones and Mrs Coppin for all their help and hard work over the afternoon, to make the tournament run so smoothly! Thank you also to Karen and the kitchen staff for providing all the yummy match teas.
