With the rain clouds clearing we set off down the A264 for an eagerly anticipated fixture against Brambletye. Toby won the toss and put Brambletye into bat on a green wicket. Two maiden overs were bowled by Zach and Andre as they passed the bat on a number of occasions. We once again worked hard in the field and this was highlighted when Zach instigated a run out with a
fantastic direct hit. However we failed to take the catches that could have changed the course of the game dropping their captain 3 times before he went on to score 51. Pick of the bowlers Andre 2 for 13 of 6 overs and Toby 1 for 12 of 6. Brambletye closed on 112 for 5 at tea. With the run rate at a shade over 4.5 an over there was no reason to think that we couldn’t win the game. A solid start was needed, it was key not to lose early wickets. Unfortunately we once again failed to give ourselves the chance to chase down their total as we fell for 10 for 4 due to poor shot selection and silly running. Staring down the barrel of a big defeat, in walked Andre and Dylan, with our backs to the wall they went on to produce a rearguard action that Panesar and Anderson would have been proud of. They batted together for 13 overs taking the score from 22 for 5 to 57 before Dylan fell in the penultimate over of the match. This partnership earned us a draw and both Andre (15) and Dylan (16) should be very proud of the way they applied themselves to the task in hand, a lesson that some others could learn.
So in the end the boys left Brambletye with our first positive result of the season. Our next task to put all parts of our game together in the same afternoon, when you do this you will be a match for anyone as you have the ability you just need to apply it. IP
