Yesterday afternoon, the Colts Cs welcomed Cumnor House School for a Twenty20 bash.
Having won the toss, Zevon elected to field. In the early overs, Cumnor struggled to cope with the tight bowling and fielding from Copthorne. This was in part due to fine spells of bowling from Jamie and Shaun, who were consistent in their line and length. Soon, the bails came tumbling from all corners – Jonathan (1), Ameer (2), Shaun (3), Elliott (1) and Gabriel (3). Special mention should also be awarded to Zevon, who commanded the field well and to Austin who got a run out from a direct hit on his debut.
At the end of the first innings Cumnor House were 84 for all out.
Our opening pair, Sam S and Elliott began their partnership well collecting singles at a steady rate. As his confidence grew, Sam then started to find the boundary by making effective use of a sweep shot to the leg side. However, ultimately, it was Cumnor’s wayward bowling which proved to be their undoing as they began giving extras away cheaply. Eventually, with four overs remaining, Copthorne reached their target of 85 for a loss of 3 wickets.
Overall, a solid performance which promises of more good things to come. DH
