Pennthorpe won the toss and put us into bat first. We slowly got into our stride picking up singles with sensible running. A mad 10 minutes saw 4 wickets drop with us rooted on 23 runs but we soon settled down again and regained focus. The boundaries started coming and singles were collected at a constant rate keeping the scoreboard ticking over. On 99 runs with 2 wickets to spare the magic 100 was in sight but we could not quite reach it. Copthorne 99 all out.
The games was now in our own hands. Accurate bowling was the key to
victory, cutting out the extras and forcing the batsmen to play. This was a performance to end any season. Dot ball after dot ball, Pennthorpe could not cope with the brutality of our bowling. Wickets started to fall and our
opponents knew they had a job on their hands to reach our total with so few overs remaining. With 20 overs bowled and Pennthorpe finishing on 44 runs victory was ours. More wickets for S. Lloyd, O. Dodson and J. Hirchfield and 3 maidens for C. Dineen capped off a fine display. Well done to H. Hickmet and D. Tuvey who top scored with 16 and 17 respectively, everyone played their part today, well done and thank you.
