A much better day at the Duke of Kent 7’s for the Under 13’s. This was a much smaller tournament than Windlesham but our experiences from Tuesday had certainly improved our play. Originally the competition was Duke of Kent, Handcross and Dorset House, however The Heights from Haselmere turned up despite not having had an invite and promptly won the Under 13 tournament. We played well against them but were outgunned in both size and speed. We did, however have a comfortable win against Handcross and then faced Duke of Kent in a show down for runners up spot. Having lost to them at Windlesham we knew it would not be easy but the boys played some very good controlled 7’s and gained a 14 – 0 lead. We proceeded to mess up another scoring opportunity but surely the lead was enough. With time running out Kent went over for a score and converted. 14 – 7. Then with only a minute left we let them in again, 14 – 12 but they missed the conversion and somehow we managed to hold out and took the medals. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and well played to the boys.
