Reality Check for First XI

Pennthorpe    8    Copthorne    0

After the highs of winning the Sale Cup last week, our First XI came crashing back to ground this Wednesday playing against an unbeaten Pennthorpe side.  We were 1-0 down after one minute’s play, and really had not woken up until 5 minutes were gone.  We then played some nice fluent passing football for a few minutes, before Pennthorpe got their second from the penalty spot.  From there on they scored with worrying regularity as our defenders were caught out on too many occasions.  The less said about the game the better really, though we should have got on the score sheet, with two easy chances being missed and with Andy quite unlucky to smash a great shot against the post.  These are the kind of matches we should be looking at and hoping to make our mark in, the best sign of a developing team is one that works well even against good opponents.  The boys kept going right to the end, but I hope that we come away from the Cottesmore game next week with more pride.  One to put behind you and learn from lads!
