Football – U8 A & B v Ardingly

U8 “B”

Feeling buoyant after last weeks first ever scoring draw, there was much excitement before today’s game. In very trying weather conditions, the boys showed a great deal of heart and commitment to each other. They played positively and showed once again that they are improving all the time. Barlas B scored for Copthorne¬†from a goal box scramble late in the first half after some good build up play saw Ardingly put under pressure. There were a couple of close opportunities in the second half but we couldn’t quite find the back of the net. However, thanks to some very good defensive work from Robbie E, Charlie A, Graham H and William F, Copthorne managed to hold out for a brilliant first win! The whole team played exceptionally well and choosing the man of the match was difficult. Graham H showed how much he has improved and he made several crucial tackles so is this week’s MoM. Congratulations Graham. Final result Copthorne 1 v Ardingly 0.

U8 “A”

This weeks game focus has been on improving the way we start matches. We are often slow out of the gates, allowing our opposition to gain an early advantage. With this in mind, we trained yesterday against the U9 “A” side to help the boys focus from the first whistle. Pleasingly, we were on the ball from the off! We never really let Ardingly settle and it wasn’t long before our passing game had them under pressure. Our first few attacking opportunities were dealt with but it wasn’t long before Copthorne found the back of the net through Freddie N after some super build-up play which swept the length of the field. 1-0 at half time, we decided to make a change and bring Dhruv N out of goal. From the beginning of the second half there was a far more concerted effort to play more expansive football. The passes were finding their target and with some good movement off the ball, the second goal came once more via Freddie N. Fullbacks Yonis A and William M had strong games and played in more attacking roles late in the half which led to our third and final goal from Thomas F. It was a fantastic game of football to watch, well done boys. Man of the match: Thomas F. Final result Copthorne 3 v Ardingly 0.

A huge thanks to all the parents that came to support their children and the teams. It makes such a huge difference. See you next week. DM
