The first team endured a tough afternoon with their first performance of the season ending in a defeat to a strong Brambletye side. After some good training sessions over the past few days, spirits were high before the game. This didn’t last too long however as Brambletye scored a number of quick goals to put early pressure on. The team struggled to make an impact on the game, rarely venturing into the opposition D and having to make some good tackles to stop the score increasing further. Eventually Copthorne got on the scoreboard after a well worked move down the right ended in a good finish. The last few minutes of the first half saw Copthorne have more control and after a few near misses the ball finally found its way into the goal via Jemima C.

The second half started similarly to the first with Brambletye scoring all too easily. Mistakes started to creep into Copthorne’s game, gifting the ball to them at bad times leading to further goals. The final whistle sounded to a heavy defeat. Well done to Jemima S who made several excellent saves in goal, especially in the second half. Abi and Josie tackled well in defence whilst Jemima C caused problems upfront for the Brambletye defence at times. Plenty to work on over the next week before the game against Lancing.
