The second team put in a hardworking performance against Brambletye on Wednesday but found themselves on the end of a defeat. The game started with a very early goal for Brambletye which seemed to wake the Copthorne girls up a bit. Some excellent tackling in defence meant that the Brambletye forwards struggled to get shots on goal but we seemed to lack a cutting edge when going forward. A well worked move almost saw Lara sneaking the ball in at the back post but unfortunately the ball just trickled wide of the post. With Copthorne pushing for an equaliser it was Brambletye who caught Copthorne on the break and they then added to their goal tally before half time.

The second half was again a tough affair with lots of hard tackles being put in by both sides and both goalkeepers having to make saves. Eventually the Copthorne girls started to run out of ideas and after so much running the opposition were finding it easier to get shots at goal. A couple found their way in but for the most part the girls stood firm. Perhaps some shooting drills this coming week will give them more of a threat next week.

Well done to Leah who had an excellent game in defence, tackling anyone who came near her with the ball. Issy had a solid game in goal making some good saves whilst Khushi worked hard in the midfield. Lily-Grace also made some solid tackles and Lila also put in some great effort up front. Hopefully next week’s game will see a more positive result.
