Girls Football Tournament

23rd November 2017

There was great excitement on the bus to Great Walstead and in the training sessions that the girls had as they got prepared to play in their very first football tournament-A chance to play and do something different! And wow, but they put in some excellent work-Both in training and in the matches they played.

The girl’s first game against Ashdown was a superb victory. The girls did really well to create many chances and defended well at the back. The rest of the afternoon’s games proved to be more challenging as the girls fell to a loss from a very tight next 3 games. However, their team spirit to cheer ‘Copthorne’ before the game and their attitudes throughout were outstanding! They never gave up, kept pushing on and had real big heaps of fun which was so important.

Going forward, the girls burst up field well. Grace W did superb work in the midfield to distribute the ball out well, make chances and scored a fantastic goal in our final game, with Regina K doing really great to get the ball into the box and retaining possession. Hannah R ran her socks off through the whole afternoon, making good runs and passes. The defense of Jemima C, Mallory E,Jenna A-B and Leah G proved lethal. Even though the team conceded a few goals, the girls stood strong to save us from any more getting in the goal and got the ball up field well! They all put in great efforts. Our midfield stood firm in attack and defense, with Emily W and Lila B who were strong on the ball and did fantastic work all over the pitch. Our goalkeeper, Isabel S did really well to save plenty of shots and did a good job as GK.

A huge congratulations to all of the girls. They did extremely well and they did their school so very proud!

Well done girls!
