After the success of the Senior team at K2 in the Sussex Championships last Friday this time it was our Junior team who had the chance to show what they can do against the best that Sussex has to offer! In total there were around 26 different schools participating and we took a team of 19 pupils from Years 3 to 5 covering 31 events, so we were in for a busy day of track and field. Expectations were high with medals, records and PB’s in touching distance.

The competition at this event is phenomenal and as each year passes the talent grows and grows. Athletics at Copthorne is clearly on the up and our youngsters did not let us down by bringing home 4 medals (3 silver and 1 bronze), breaking 4 school records and also 6 personal bests. There is almost a gladiatorial feel about athletics with individuals going head to head and you can feel the adrenaline pumping through the children as they are about to compete. I am already looking forward to next year when expectations will be even higher and competition for places in the team will increase with more interest.

Well done to all 19 children who took part; you did your school proud. Also, a big thank you to the parents that came to cheer on the team.  I hope you were impressed with the talent on show and with the performances of our children…I was!
