Olympic Fever Hits Copthorne as Athletics Records Tumble!

31st May 2016

Our pupils may be slightly too young to represent Team GB in Rio this summer but that did not stop them from smashing multiple Copthorne athletics records on Sports Day.  A fantastic 10 records were broken with the track taking the biggest hit of 8 whilst the triple jump pit surrendered 2 records.

The full list of broken records are as follows:

Year 8 Girls 300m – H Ashbee: 51.59

Year 8 Boys 300m – D Westwood: 48.12

Year 7 Girls Triple Jump – R Home: 8.37m

Year 7 Boys 100m – D Tewogbade: 12.21

Year 7 Boys 200m – D Tewogbade: 25.81

Year 7 Boys 300m – D Tewogbade: 44.75

Year 5 Girls Triple Jump – A Willis: 6.72m

Year 4 Girls 600m – G Holland: 2:11.06

Year 4 Boys 600m – A Mills: 2:10.75

Year 3 Girls 600m – S Rix: 2:25.06

With the Junior County Championships at Hurst and the Senior County Championships at K2 only 2 weeks away it looks as though our athletes are finding their form at the right time.  Fingers crossed that they can continue their push for glory and who knows, maybe we will have some more records broken before the end of the season.
