Pentathlon v Cumnor House  and Windlesham

8th May 2016

The Cumnor House pentathlon is always a great way to open the athletics season and allows a handful of our athletes the opportunity to blow off the cobwebs after a long winter.

The competition is made up of 2 sections, Under 14 (Year 8) and Under 12 (Year 6) with each including 2 boys and 2 girls. The Copthorne athletes were Daniel P, Daniel T, Elise F, Amber B, Ben C, Luca P, Jemima C and Emily G.

The events for the pentathlon include the hurdles, 100m, long jump, shot put and the dreaded 800m to finish.

Although there are placings for each event it is the time recorded or distance jumped/thrown that equate to points.

There were some excellent athletes on show throughout the afternoon with some impressive results. Here are the pick of the Copthorne results:

Daniel P – 3rd in 100m

Daniel T – 2nd in 100m and 3rd in Hurdles

Elise – 2nd in Hurdles and 3rd in 100m

Amber – 1st in Shot Put

Ben – 2nd in 800m and 3rd Shot Put

Luca – 1st in Shot Put

Jemima – 1st in Shot Put and 3rd in Long Jump

Emily – 4th in Hurdles

Elise finished up as our top performer, claiming the bronze medal spot in the Under 14 Girls competition. Each of the 8 athletes did themselves and Copthorne proud and should be pleased with their efforts. Double effort stars to all of you!

The next big event is the Inter-house Sports Day on Friday 27th May so be sure to come along and support all of the children. Records are made to be broken! MA
