Swimming Gala v Brambletye

5th October 2017

The second outing for the swimming  team this term, was a Senior Gala away at Brambletye. As we were swimming both ‘A’ and ‘B’ Teams there were several new swimmers to the squad but we had high hopes of a win, off the back of a drawn result at Hurst earlier in the term.

The Individual Medley is an event that is missing from many of the galas that we attend during the year but it was good to see it back on the programme at this event. Occasionally a struggle for the ‘B’ team swimmers, we acquitted ourselves really well this time, gaining valuable points right at the start. We were strong in the butterfly events, gaining two firsts and two seconds and this was bettered in the back stroke when we achieved two firsts and three seconds. We went one better still in the breast stroke races, taking three wins and two seconds including a tremendous victory for Katie F from Year 5 who filled in for an absent swimmer in the Year 8 race and came first. The freestyle was more of a struggle for us with just a single win and two seconds but we again stepped up during the relays with the ‘A’ team coming in first and the ‘B’ team second in the majority of the races.

Overall an excellent result with the ‘A’ team coming out as overall winners and our ‘B’ team achieving third place. Well done everyone who took part, especially those who filled in when we had swimmers missing and thank you to Brambletye for hosting us. The next gala is a Junior event at Cumnor on Monday 9th October and our entry for the IAPS Swimming Championships has just been accepted with the heats taking place at Hurstpierpoint on 22nd February 2018 and the finals at the London Aquatics Centre on the 9th June 2018.
