U10 ‘A’ Hockey v Great Walstead

21st October 2016

The U10A enjoyed a very successful afternoon at Great Walstead, scoring lots of goals, passing the ball around well and making the opposition really struggle against their attacking play. From the first whistle Copthorne controlled the game. Gabi ran things in midfield and her link up play with Annabelle upfront would cause Walstead problems all game. It didn’t take long for the first goal to be scored with some excellent approach play and good finishing in the corner. This was followed by another three goals before half time all scored in very similar fashion with lovely passing to get the ball into the D and a good shot to finish the move off. Annabelle and Gabi both got themselves on the scoresheet with assists from Keira, Amreet and Charlotte. The first half ended with Copthorne in a commanding 4-0 lead.

The second half didn’t start as well as Walstead grabbed a goal back early on even though Isabelle tried her best to keep it out. This didn’t faze the girls though as they went straight up the other end and Gabi again found the corner of the goal. Annabelle continued to be a thorn in the side of the opposition defence and increased her goal tally for the day and Keira also found her way onto the score sheet with a neat finish. Ava, Amreet and Keira were solid in the defence with little getting past them. Even though Isabelle had little to do for much of the game she made an excellent save towards the end. It’s always difficult to remain focussed when you don’t have many saves to make but when called upon she did the business. The final score ended with a resounding 7-1 victory for the girls. It could have been more if it wasn’t for lots of good saves from the Walstead goalkeeper.

Coach for the day Mr Clark left very impressed with the performance. If the girls can carry on this type of play, attitude and performance then they will make a formidable team as they go through the school. Well done to the whole team. You deserved your victory and should be proud of yourselves.
