A slight change to the usual fixture as Brambletye only have 15 boys in Year 5, it was requested that we play a 7 a-side game which meant that I could not take my usual 11 boys as this would have meant a number of boys standing on the side line and constant changing. So thank you to those boys who understood the situation that we were put in. Anyway to the match itself, this was a very entertaining game to watch with both teams going head to head in a bruising affair. We did the usual Copthorne thing of starting a game slowly conceding a try in the first 5 minutes and to be honest I thought Brambletye would score again early in the game but Wesley managed to snipe his way to the touch line as Luke was injured on the ground and as other players stopped around him, he played to the whistle. Once again Brambletye got themselves in front but we managed to score again from the last play of the half as Shams drove over the line tacking 4 opponents with him. So we were level having been off the pace for much of the half.
A few words during the interval seemed to focus the boys and we came out of the traps in the second half as we played on the front foot and were quicker at the break down. Tries from Sam P and Luke x 2 gave us the breathing space we needed and we started to look a little more comfortable but we were still made to work hard for this 5-2 victory.
During match tea one of the Brambletye parents came to find me and spent 5 minutes saying how impressed he was with the skill set, technique and power of the boys and how they turned the game around in the second half. Well done boys you showed great commitment today and did well to change to the way you were playing mid-match.
