U10 ‘B’ Girls Hockey v Cottesmore

7th October 2016

The U10B’s were full of mixed emotions today with many of them playing their first ever match of hockey on grass! After discussion with the other team it was decided that only long corners would be played today due to Cottesmore not playing short corners yet!

Zara captained the side and did an absolutely fantastic job both on and off the pitch and despite becoming injured in the match she soldiered on showing great zest and determination!

In the first half of the match the girls were a bit hesitant and often too nice, resulting in Cottesmore scoring some goals early on, but nevertheless Eva and Amreet the defenders worked hard to allow no further goals to be scored and Kirsten made some fantastic saves in goal! The forward and midfield were starting to get stuck in too and this continued into the second half of the match, where the U10B’s were a very different team and I cannot fault them for their sheer determination and efforts!

Robin, Sophie, Ellie, Zara and Ella tried time and time again to get the ball into the circle to shoot and were continuously testing Cottesmore’s defence! Both Robin and Zara came extremely close to scoring narrowly missing and Ellie’s goal hit the post! Once again the defenders Eva, Amreet and Lacey fought hard to protect any further goals and Kirsten was again super in goal. Despite the girl’s grit and determination, it just wasn’t meant to be today and Cottesmore took the match 3-0. Although Cottesmore took the win in the end it was a much closer game than the score line showed and in my opinion the girls deserved at the very least a draw today for all their efforts!

Well done to all the girls who all improved from start to finish. I’m sure if you all continue to practice and persevere you will get there in the end, as you all definitely have the right attitude and spirit!

POM today was Zara picked by Cottesmore and my POM although it was very difficult to pick this week as it could have gone to lots of the girls was Zara, Robin and Ellie for never giving up! Their efforts did not go amiss as even the other umpire and team even commented on how determined the girls were and said to watch this space for this upcoming and developing team. Keep going girls!
