U10 Hockey Tournament at EG

27th November 2015

This was the first hockey tournament our U10s have attended and it certainly was a great afternoon.

In our first match against Burgess Hill, it took us a while to get into the game and as a result neither team scored. In our second match we were better prepared. Our defenders worked hard against Great Walstead, however they were the stronger team and unfortunately managed to score a goal in the last couple of minutes. Great Walstead actually went on into the cup final. We finally scored our first goal against Skippers Hill in which we really worked hard to keep possession of the ball; so much so that our goalie did not even touch the ball.

Our next two games were against Vinehall and St Andrews of which we won against the former and lost to the latter. This led to, a first ever at East Grinstead, a three way penalty shuttle which unfortunately we didn’t win through.

However, it was a great afternoon and it was lovely to see the girls give their all in the matches. It is always difficult to write a detailed report of a tournament so I thought I would write a little something on each player.

Tia volunteered to be one of our goalies and she certainly gave her all in all the matches she played. She prevented several goals from being scored and was fearless in her defence. She kept everyone’s spirits up even when she was on the sidelines. Well done!

Mallory played in defence and together with Alana they formed quite a formidable pair. Their hits from the 16 mark were excellent and over the afternoon they become stronger and more confident. Great defending girls and I am confident that next year you will have a great hockey season.

Well done to Freya who I know was quite nervous about the tournament however, she kept her cool and made some excellent tackles. she didn’t give up and made some good passes into the D.

Both Beth and Ruby played some wonderful hockey. Their boundless energy and hunger to win ensured each game was exciting to watch. Both girls worked hard to get the ball into our attacking D and with time I am confident that they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Both Tali and Emily worked hard to score and wow did they have some close calls. They were relentless in the D and I am sure with continued practice they will produce more and more goals.

Our other goalie Tanishka was great too as she made some great clearances as well as cheering the team from the side when she was not playing.

So well done girls, this was your first tournament together and from what I saw in your playing I am confident you are going to be an awesome team next year!

Thank you for being so patient and upbeat; I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Thank you to Miss P who not only umpired every match but also organised the team and drove us all there. Thank you too, to the parents who came to support us and cheer us on. LD
