U10 & U11 v Notre Dame (Thursday)

This was a great opportunity for me to see how the younger teams were progressing and I was pleasantly surprised by the U10B team!   The match was fast and furious and the 2 teams were matched goal for goal.  However the Copthorne girls had the edge after the first half ending with a 3-2 lead.

It was all to play for in the second half.  Every girl worked extremely hard, marking their players well and offloading the ball securely.  I was very impressed with Emma and Ella in the defensive D, they both played brilliantly, great intercepting and rebounding  –  well done girls!

Prisha and Rebecca also linked well together in the attacking D and really fought for every ball.  Our centre court players, Georgina, Lucy and Amanda also showed great aggression, and we saw some beautiful passages of play from all the girls.

The match ended in a 5-5 draw which was a very fair result, as there really wasn’t anything to split the 2 teams.

Well done girls, you really showed how much you have improved and you all played brilliantly  –  Well done Coach Dodson!  MJ

The U11s were up next and once again the Copthorne girls started strongly with some fantastic shooting from Sofia and Jessie  –  a new partnership maybe!  Isabella and Hannah worked extremely hard in the defending D to deny the Notre Dame shooters any easy shots on goal.  We ended the first half 6-3 up.

The Notre Dame girls came out really strongly in the second half and it wasn’t long before they closed the gap and we were tied at 8-8.  Great court play from Zoe, Maisie, Georgia and Katie!

The last 3 minutes, were really exciting  –  every time we scored Notre Dame did too.  It came down to the wire and we managed to score the winning goal, just before the final whistle went.  –  Final score 11-10

Well done girls  –  a very determined performance:  Team: Sofia, Jessica, Zoe, Maisie, Georgia, Isabella, Hannah, Katie.

Well done Coach Carter!  MJ
