Today’s match against Great Walstead’s U10s was always going to be a challenge. Copthorne had selected an U9/10 Team. However owing to injuries and absentees in other squads, a last minute rearrangement was made and some U8 girls had to play against girls two years ahead.
Kara, the captain, won the toss and elected to bat first. The girls were up against some very good bowling and very assured fielding. Owing to their inexperience many of the Copthorne players were out by being stumped before the allotted number of balls were played. They did, however, manage to score 5 ½ rounders, with Orianne, Emily, Alayna, Clarabella and Keisha scoring half or full rounders.
Great Walstead scored 19 rounders in their first innings with some very good hitting which a full U10 Copthorne team would have had problems preventing. At the start of the second innings the girls were a little down-hearted but with a ‘pep-talk’ and a change of positions they limited Great Walstead to 11 ½ runs and scored another 4½ themselves.
Emily G was particularly useful in the deep with some good stops and throws. Alayna and Tanishka shared the bowling, and although they gave away some half rounders with no balls, they became more accurate as the match progressed.
Keisha, Kirsten, Shirya and Kara all tried to improve both their batting and fielding and played their part in the game.
Great Walstead chose Emily G and Tanishka as Players of the Match.
Well done girls – a very tough call this afternoon! Mrs 2V
