Group 2 winners; lost at semi-final
Our first match was against Ashdown and the girls used the first centre pass to their advantage. Their passing and marking was strong and it wasn’t long before Copthorne were up on goal. After a quick break the girls began the second half with the same enthusiasm and strength and another goal. Copthorne won 2-0.
Our second match was against Windlesham, a notoriously strong side, and although the girls had lost a little of their speed they kept the pressure on. Our defending and interceptions were strong and it wasn’t long before both sides had scored. Despite some frustrating shots at goal Copthorne managed to score a second in the second half, however Windlesham soon equalised. Copthorne drew 2-2.
The final match of group was probably our best as our girls were keen to win. Fuelled by ambition and chocolate Copthorne played the best they had done all day. Their passing was quick and strong. Their marking and subsequent interceptions meant that the opposition had very little possession of the ball and as a result the score was Copthorne 5, Cumnor B 0.
As a result of the girls hard work and sheer determination Copthorne were top of the group and although they didn’t get through the semi-final they can be very proud of themselves. So well done Micky, Prisha, Freya, Amanda, Victoria, Emma and Chloe. You all played the best I have seen you playing and it was a pleasure to watch you today. Many thanks to Miss Butler who brilliantly umpired most of the matches thus allowing me to watch the girls; to all the parents who cheered and supported us, and also to Jimmy who waited very patiently for us to finish.
