U10A Netball v BHHS

16th March 2018

Well what a fantastic way to end the season for the U10s and what a thrilling match it was today! After both teams facing each other this season in tournaments and with one win a piece, the stakes were high! From when the whistle blew, right until the end of the match the U10s fought hard in their toughest game this season (tournaments aside) and really gave it their all, displaying great grit and determination! After losing the toss the girls were determined to win the play back and this they did with a super turnover in defence, which allowed Copthorne to score first and take the lead from the beginning putting them at an advantage, physically and mentally which they needed to do today! Copthorne then scored from their centre pass, putting them at a 2 goal advantage. BHHS fought back though and really made our girls work after this and it was goal for goal in this quarter. At the end of this quarter Copthorne held their 2 goal advantage and the score was 5-3.

It was all still to play for in the next two quarters and once again the score lines remained tight, almost goal for goal with some good netball played from both teams. However with some valuable interceptions on court from Harley and some super defensive play from Tayla, Victoria and Layla. Copthorne were able to slowly extend their lead in each quarter with some great goals from Ella and Biba putting them 10-7 up at the second quarter, and then 14-10 up in the third.

The last quarter was by far the best for Copthorne and this is when this U10 team really shone and displayed just how resilient, fit and strong a team they are! The play on centre court was a joy to watch with slick passing and movement straight from the centre into the circle and Harley, Ffion, Ella and Biba all contributed to this.

A special mention must be said in this quarter to the defence: Victoria, Tayla and especially Layla whose defensive work in the circle and well timed interceptions allowed Copthorne to really extend their lead and apply the pressure on BHHS. When the whistle blew the final score was 22-12 to Copthorne. A extremely well deserved win today, but a good challenge and test for both teams! Well done to all of the U10s, some lovely netball was played by all, with each of you contributing to the win! POM was Harley picked by BHHS and my POM was Harley and Layla for their fantastic interceptions and turnovers! This is definitely a team to watch next season.
