The sun was shining for the girl’s last match as U10s today. The thought of being unbeaten for 3 years wasn’t an issue for the girls, as they just played like they would normally. We were up against Brighton and Hove High School, and from previous fixtures with this school, we knew it was going to be fairly easy. We started off fielding and within the first 5 minutes we had got out 6 of their players with some excellent fielding from Yelena and Ami again. BHHS weren’t able to make it to 2nd post because our fielding was too tight, Alice had an excellent game in the first innings by not giving them any ½ rounders from her bowling either. When the BHHS girls did hit the ball, one of them was caught out by an awesome one handed catch from Elise whilst on the run to get the ball or stumped out by her.
We went into bat and we scored 7 rounders in the first innings, with most girls getting whole rounders. We found the space well and played safe on the posts at the beginning of the innings and then took risks at the right time which sometimes paid off, resulting in ½ or full rounders. Madeleine, Amber, Hermione and Emily had a quiet game as deep fielders because the ball didn’t get to them much, but on backward hits they backed up 2nd post well and made sure they were all there to support Elise if she made a mistake (which she didn’t!) Holly and Madison shared the innings again but when they batted both of them scored a rounder this week. We went into field again and this time BHHS managed to score 2½. The final score was 13-2½.
A massive thank you to all the supporters who come and watch every match the girls have played, even in the rain, wind and hail! I am hugely proud of the girls, they have been excellent and put in so much effort, I have loved teaching them and I look forward to coaching them again next year for 4 unbeaten years! LJ
