U11 ‘A’ Girls Hockey v Handcross Park

12th November 2016

The U11A team put in an excellent performance on Wednesday afternoon as they beat a strong Handcross side in what was a very entertaining game for all. The game began at a frenetic pace and within just 10 seconds Copthorne had the lead. An excellent ball from Beth saw a first time shot from Ruby expertly put away into the corner of the goal for an early lead. Further Copthorne pressure nearly led to an increased lead with shots from Macie and Alana being well saved. A breakaway goal from Handcross saw them bring the scores level. Great defending from Mallory and Emily kept the scores level and a well worked Copthorne move saw Macie sneak the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper from close range to give Copthorne the advantage once again. Beth thought she had increased the lead further but her goal was unfortunately disallowed for the ball not leaving the D from a short corner. As the half drew to a close Handcross once again drew the scores level, this time with a well worked short corner.

The second half saw Copthorne dominate possession and the chances. After a few near misses Beth got a well-deserved goal from a hard low shot from a short corner. Copthorne were unfortunate not to increase their lead and their eventual 3-2 victory does not show their complete dominance in the second half with Emily in goal only having to make a few saves which she was always alert to. A brilliant victory for the girls who are fast becoming an excellent team.
