U11 ‘A’ Hockey v Cottesmore

All the drills the girls did earlier in the week’s games sessions finally came together against Cottesmore on Wednesday. The team had a good warm up and we talked about what we did in training, resulting in a super game of hockey for a feisty and determined bunch. The girls showed structure and moved well when off the ball and fully deserved their 2-0 victory.

Everybody did what was asked: Mallory and Emily W were solid in defence, stepping up early and getting the ball out quickly and out wide to our midfields. Beth worked tirelessly as ever to attack the space and was rewarded with a well worked goal just before the half time whistle. Ruby, who was voted player of the match, controlled the ball very well and rolled out fantastically away from defenders to pass the ball freely to open players. Her thinking and composure on the ball also allowed her name to be added to the score sheet later on in the 2nd half. Alana and Macie supported Beth and Ruby by pulling defenders out of the scoring D, giving them the chance of beating the Cottesmore GK. Emily V didn’t have much to do during the match as the ball seldom passed Copthorne’ s early defensive press but was called in to make a couple of saves during the last few seconds of the match, she kept her cool and cleared the danger comfortably.

Well played to all the girls, fantastic job of keeping ones position and looking to move the ball early.

Team: Emily V, Mallory, Emily W, Beth, Ruby, Alana and Macie
