On Wednesday afternoon the U11 ‘A’ girls took on Lancing College Prep Hove on the astro at Lancing College. Both teams were evenly matched with the ball travelling quickly between the two attacking circles. Throughout the first half play was pretty even with both teams gaining equal possession of the ball. A moment’s slip in concentration allowed the opposition to counter attack, taking full advantage of our slow reaction to defend a 16 yard and caught us off guard to give the home side a 0-1 lead into half time.

Coming into the second half with everything still to play for and having been reminded to move the ball early and hold ones positions, the girls began where they left off. This time Copthorne had the most possession and attacking plays, with chance after chance but could not follow up the rebounds off the goalie. Towards the end of the match the girls thought they had scored the equalizer but the slightest of deflections off the goalies right foot deflected the ball just enough to pass the right post and off the base line.

With only the 7 players the girls never seemed to tire and work tremendously to the final whistle. Really unlucky not to have come away with a goal or two.

Well done to Beth for being voted player of the match.
