After the disappointment of narrowly missing qualification for the IAPS National Finals the U11s played another great match today. Duke of Kent won the toss and chose first centre pass and were quick to score. This took Copthorne by surprise and they responded with a goal to equalise. With the score 2-2 Copthorne started to take control of the game; our passing looked stronger and there was some great passing between our attacking players Ruby, Emily and Beth working the ball into GS Alana. At the end of the first quarter Copthorne were leading 7-3.

We started the second quarter strongly with some excellent moving and passing by shooters Beth and Alana in the D and strong and alert defence work from Mallory and Alayna.  Ruby in the centre position worked tirelessly all over the court intercepting and off loading really well. At half time Copthorne had increased their lead to 14-7.

After a quick team talk to encourage the girls to hold and then move off their players we were ready to start the second half.  We continued to play well in the third quarter with Ruby being key to controlling the game. Tali and Tanishka found some good space to help bring the ball down to the attacking D. Alana and Beth’s movement within the D was superb, one player holding whilst the other moved. Mallory was up against a very strong and determined GA but she made some fantastic interceptions preventing the opposition from advancing the ball. At the end of the third quarter Copthorne had scored another 7 goals increasing their lead 20-9.

Copthorne finished the game strongly demonstrating some excellent team work and high levels of skill. Alana and Beth were too quick for the Duke of Kent defence passing the ball within the D and scored 8 goals in the final quarter. The final score was 28-12 to Copthorne. Well played girls, another superb performance from all of you.

Congratulations to Mallory who was voted player of the match by the Duke of Kent team.
