U11 ‘B’ Hockey v Handcross Park

12th November 2016

The U11B’s had a tough game today against HXP on our grass pitch. After the rain this morning the pitch was heavy and the ball didn’t run very well.

The first half saw all the girls camped out in the middle of the pitch with the ball not travelling very far at all. Hard tackles were going in from both sides and it was the HXP team that managed to penetrate our defence once in the first half; going up hill; but Tia (in goal) made a great clearance with her boot! The first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate and we were going to have to battle hard to keep out HXP who would be attacking downhill in the second.

It was all about the visitors during the second half with the advantage of attacking downhill and the Copthorne girls making really hard work of clearing the ball from the D and getting passed the half-way line. Freya and Tali worked tirelessly in defence ably assisted by Ruby and they tackled hard to make it difficult for the HXP forwards. However, the HXP players persisted and were rewarded with 2 goals.

Tanishka was nominated as player of the match for her persistent tackling and trying to run with the ball into space. A really hard game in difficult conditions but the Copthorne girls should be proud of the way they never gave up and tackled to the end. Well done to the team: Tali (Capt), Freya, Ruby, Tanishka, Alayna, Tia (GK), Romilly, Lacey & Keisha
