After selecting seven players for the U11B team this week to play against Cottesmore – additional girls were needed after a last minute telephone call from the opposition. They were having a problem raising a team and were bringing some U12 players and possibly U13. Undaunted the Copthorne squad played as competitively as they could and only allowed Cottesmore a 2 – 0 win.

The pre-selected team of Tanishka, Tia, Tali, Emily, Macie, Kirsten and Ava played in the first quarter and Cottesmore scored their first goal. The additional players of Jenna, Orianne and Hanna (Year 7) plus Ella B (Year 5) were substituted during the following three quarters. The opposition were extremely good in the middle and defending thirds of the court and the Copthorne shooters were allowed less than five shots on goal throughout the match. Their goal defence was particular good and managed to intercept the ball in all areas by jumping, stretching and never giving up! The second goal was scored in the last few minutes of the last quarter.

As I said earlier all the girls did their best against a stronger – and taller – team and should be commended for their perseverance and team spirit.

Tanishka was chosen by Cottesmore as the Copthorne Player of the Match – well done – and I would like to give a special mention to Kirsten (GK) who worked tirelessly throughout the match and was not substituted as she was such a valuable player. Well done to the whole squad!
