Copthorne travelled down to Lancing for their first game after half-term. On winning the toss Lottie chose to field first. The home side set the pace right from the start with 2 rounders in two balls, but Georgina slowed them down a bit with a great catch at backstop off Ria’s bowling. Lancing managed to keep the scoreboard moving with ½ rounders as Copthorne’s fielding was not on target. With a flourish of rounders at the end of the innings, Lancing were in a commanding lead. Batting was the girl’s strongest area of the day. They made good contact nearly all the time but were restricted to 1st post only, as Lancing reacted quicker to the ball and closed down all the gaps. The girls started to panic a little and ran themselves out unnecessarily. Clara was Copthorne’s top batter in the 1st innings, helping to keep the score within range. In the 2nd innings the girls tightened up their fielding by not giving too many extra ½ rounders away. Ria also took a good catch off her own bowling. Once again Lancing was far too strong with the bat, picking their spot and scoring at ease. Copthorne’s second go at bat was much like the 1st, making contact but hitting the ball straight to the fielders. As the innings went on, the chances of reaching Lancing’s score grew smaller and smaller, even Lottie’s 1½ rounders could not help and in the end Copthorne fell well short.
Well done to Georgina for being voted player of the match. HP
