U11 EGHA Plate Winners

13th November 2015

On a very wet and windy Friday afternoon the U11 girls took part in the EGHA tournament.

Our 1st pool match was going to be tough as Bedes were winners of the last tournament held at Hurst earlier this term. We held them off for as long as possible but ended up conceding 3 goals, however, we ended the game on a high as Jemima scored the last goal of the game to finish it 1-3. (Bedes once again were overall winners of this tournament)

We faced Lingfield Notre Dame next. Both teams evenly matched and determined to win. As the game progressed LND began to find their form and within the last couple of minutes found the back of the goal to clinch maximum points.

In our last 2 pool games we came across two unknowns: St Ronan’s and Hilden Oaks. Both these games were played on the 3G pitch at EGHC. As we are used to the slower pace, the girls settled a lot quicker and felt more comfortable. They played some fantastic hockey, coming away with a draw against St Ronan’s and ending the pool matches with a win against Hilden Oaks.

After all points were added up we finished 4th in our group and just sneaked into the plate section. Here we faced another local rival Brambletye. The girls, still on a high from the previous match, got off to a super fast start and never looked in trouble of conceding a goal. We attacked and attacked but somehow could not find the back of the goal. Eventually a ball rebounded off the keeper to find Emma in the right place to send us into the semi finals of the plate.

Here we once again found ourselves against St Ronan’s. Now the girls were playing some of their best hockey and kept going from strength to strength. Again the girls piled on the pressure and created a lot of scoring opportunities. Jemima was on form in this competition, picking up yet another couple of goals. With another win we looked forward to the finals.

Back on the water based pitch we found ourselves up against Brighton & Hove. Another school we have yet to come across. This didn’t have any affect on the girls at all as we saved our best performance until last. The ball seemed to go from player to player and stick to stick. The opposition keeper had a lot of work to do as we stormed the goal on many occasion, just narrowly missing. With all the goals Jemima had scored this afternoon we were certain one more was to come, and soon she proved us right with one of her track mark pulls to the right and hit into the left hand side of the goal. All we had to do now was hold out until the end, easier said than done as B & H had the last play of the match, a short corner. Even with the end whistle going we had to play the short corner. Isabella had a fairly quiet game but remained calm as she cleared the ball out of the danger area sealing our victory.

Well done girls on a fantastic afternoon.
