U11 Rugby v Duke of Kent

Won 13-2

What a great way to start the new term; a match on the first day back! Credit must go to the grounds staff for keeping the pitches playable after the recent rainfall, in the past this fixture would never have happened.

It was clear from the opening exchanges that we were the stronger team so the plan was to keep rotating the squad and try and stick to playing team rugby rather than scoring solo efforts. Our running lines in attack were effective with gaps being created and the defensive line broken time after time. Although our tackling was not always up to scratch I was very impressed with the speed we arrived at the tackle area, often being able to pick up the ball and run before the ruck had been formed. We managed to score 7 unanswered tries in the first half to give us a commanding lead.

I set the boys a couple of challenges in the second half; forget about ripping the ball and concentrate on tackling then rucking and also to move the ball wider one extra pass in attack. Although we conceded a couple of tries during this period our standard of rugby was much higher. We scored some wonderful tries built on drawing the defender and passing, offloading in the tackle and also some route 1 head down drives! Every child

contributed to the win today whether it was by scoring tries, preventing tries, securing the ball in the ruck or choosing the correct pass; that is what makes rugby such a special game. Well done boys! MA

Try scorers: Ben C (4), Luca (3), Sam D (2), Sam S (2), Jacob and Austin
