In recent years Great Walstead have proved to be one of the toughest teams to play against and today was no different. They dominated the game from start to finish as we struggled to defend against their fast paced attack and willingness to keep moving the ball. In the close contact areas we often held our own and on occasions turned the ball over with some strong rucking. However, it was one-on-one tackling that let us down and on far too many occasions we were found wanting and gifted Walstead a number of tries.
The second half was much better; we knew the game was beyond us so we set out to hit small targets instead of trying to chase the game. With these targets came minor positives and a little confidence boost for individuals and the team as a whole. We managed to score 2 tries of our own through Luca and Ben C regain some pride and avoid the dreaded nil score line!
A heavy defeat is often the catalyst to a strong performance next time out and I am positive that if the boys produce the work that they have been doing in games lessons then they will be a match for opponents. I don’t mind if the team loses as long as they have put 100% into the match … I’m not entirely sure that was the case today. Lots to work on in training before we host Hazelwood next Wednesday; let’s end the half term with a big win!!
