U11 Rugby v Windlesham House

4th December 2015

Windlesham is always a tough fixture for us and today was no different. After 2 minutes of play we were already 2 tries behind and it looked like there was to be a long afternoon ahead of us. Windlesham dominated the first half; attacking in numbers, securing and moving the ball with ease. Tackling was our biggest problem with few too many willing to “get stuck in”. Rugby is not a game you can play half-heartedly with so many physical aspects to compete in.

The second half was much improved and I can honestly say I was proud of their efforts in defence. The boys found some passion and determination to instil pride into the performance. In attack we were still lacking composure and conviction but that will come with experience, bearing in mind we only have 2 boys who play club rugby outside of Copthorne. Sam S managed to weave his way through and sprint under the posts to get a score after some solid ball retention; pride restored!

There is a long way to go but there were signs of potential in this group of boys and I look forward to the next games lesson. MA
